Room 101 Daruma

Room 101 Daruma

Size: 4 x 42 Papi Chulo Pre Release Sample

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano

Binder: Mexican

Filler: Honduran and Nicaraguan

The Room 101 Daruma is the latest creation from jeweler/cigar extrordinaire Matt Booth.  If you’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting Matt, you know two things; the man has style and he is blinged out.  The new Daruma is no different.

The cigars has a wrapper that is medium in color and just looks smooth.  It gets its bling from a very nicely done triple cap.  The band itself is one of the pre release bands, so I do not know if it will look the same when it hits the shelf.  The current band is a faded purple with white lettering. (mine states pre release)  As with some of Matts other lines the the “monster” creature accents it as well.

Now, I am not one of those cigar bloggers that can tell you every flavor that is coming out of a cigar.  What I can tell you is what I do pick up on, and in this cigar I get a taste of light spice and wood, as well as a slight bitterness.  Flavor wise, it works for me.

Hitting the halfway mark, this cigar really opens up flavor wise.  It holds it’s original flavors, and is joined by an earthy flavor.

This stick burned consistently throughout, without any touch ups.  It held a perfect tight ash as well.  I ashed after the first third and half, I think it would have held throughout, but I didn’t want to ash on the keyboard as I was typing.

Now, for the real question, would I buy it?  I can honestly tell you I would.  In the past I have not been the biggest fan of Room 101 cigars.  The flavor and complexity was just not there for me.  However, in this new Daruma it is, and I would even go as far to say that it is box worthy.  When it hits your store, pick up a couple and give it a try, I think you will enjoy it.

Hey Frank, I want to say I just discovered your site and I really like your reviews. Most of all I really like the many boutique brands you review most of which I’ve never heard of. They are very intriguing. I have tried this cigar and I agree with you it is very nice. I thought I read somewhere that Room 101 was connected to Camacho somehow ? ANyway nice review and keep those less heard of sticks coming. Can’t wait to try them.

    • Hi Paul, thanks so much for commenting! I am a boutique guy through and through, and would like to see the all thrive and be around to make even better cigars down the road. Camacho is the parent company for Room 101. Will kepp up the review, thanks again for commenting, they are always welcome!
