I had the pleasure of smoking one of the newest releases from the Oliva factory this evening.  The Oliva V Melanio, debuted at the 2012 IPCPR and has been all the rave among smokers of Oliva products.

The new Oliva V Melanio is a very nice looking cigar.  The torpedo that I smoked was put together and wrapped perfectly.  I have always been a big fan of the quality work that is consistent in the Oliva lines.  The Melanio is a double banded cigar, the first of which is a standard Oliva V band, the second read, Melanio Gran Reserva Limitada.

This cigar started off fairly mild to medium, but quickly picked up into that medium to full flavor category.  The flavor of this cigar overall, seemed to me, to be much like that of the standard V.  I will say that I did notice some more pepper starting at the second quarter and continuing throughout.

The burn of this cigar was perfect.  Again, it’s an Oliva, great quality throughout the smoke.   The cigar virtually smoked itself, and the smoke was thick and white.

Would I buy it again?  Probably not.  While it is a good cigar, I just did not notice any major differences between it and the standard V to justify the price difference.  Should you try it, absolutely, you may love it.
