Island Cigar Factory Connecticut

Island Cigar Factory Connecticut Al Capone

I was pleasantly surprised when I returned to my office after the holidays to find a package in my mailbox that sported a return address from Island Cigar Factory in Key West.  Now I do have to state that I had no idea this box was coming, it just showed up.  I do have to say that I love surprise cigar gifts.

I opened the box to find a stack of business cards along with a small cedar cigar box that read “Cigars Key West” with a tropical beach scene printed on it.  I slipped open the cedar box and found three great looking hand rolled cigars; and Al Capone sized Connecticut, a Pyramid Maduro, and a Double Wrapped Perfecto.

I looked the company up and learned that all the cigars are hand rolled by Rafael Fuente of Island Cigar Factory.  Island Cigar Factory will also make custom cedar cigar boxes for you.  They have numerous locations in Key West, which I will post below this review along with their contact information.

Size: Al Capone 5.5×48

Wrapper: Connecticut

Binder: Undisclosed

Filler: Undisclosed

The cigar I smoked for this review was the “Al Capone” shaped Connecticut.  This is a very clean rolled cigar with a beautiful light tan colored Connecticut wrapper.  The shape is very interesting as well, and I could not wait to set fire to it.  The pre-light smell was very reminiscent to some cigars I had smoked years ago that were rolled in the 1970’s.

The flavor profile on this cigar was amazing from start to finish.  This cigar featured a very pleasant woodsy flavor with strong cedar notes.  The first third brought on some nice cocoa notes as well as a nice creaminess that followed through the rest of the cigar.  About mid-way through I started to pick up a slight bitterness, not an obnoxious one but more complementary.   The cigar finished with much flavor and I can say that I was sad to see it end.  I guess I should note that this cigar was smoked fairly fresh out of the box and was not aged by myself whatsoever.

The Al Capone shape is priced on Island Cigar Factories website at $125 for a bundle of 25 cigars.   In my opinion, these are excellent cigars for the money.  Having had the experience and have seen what goes into making a cigar, I can tell you it is very labor intensive and at this price makes them a steal.  Island Cigar Factory has other sizes available, they range in price from $75-$175 for 25 cigars.   They are available in both bundle or box form.   I’d recommend picking some up and giving them a try!
