Being that today is Memorial Day, I could not think of a better cigar to do a review on than the American Eagles.  The American Eagles cigar is a cigar made in the Dominican Republic by cigar maker Hendrik Kelner.  A portion of each box sale of American Eagles cigars go to support the Semper Fi Fund, that helps injured and critically ill members of our  armed forces.

Unibroue Don De Dieu

Origin: Unibroue (Chambly, Quebec)

ABV: 9.0%

STYLE: Triple Wheat Ale

Unibroue is a Canadian company known for making beers that surprisingly taste like a cross between a beer and a glass of wine… Weird, I know, but they do a very good job. I was first introduced to Unibroue when I went to visit my friend Chris up in Kentucky.

Anyway my buddy and I decided to take a trip to Kentucky Downs horse track and gamble away some of our hard earned money- because that’s what every smart man does, right? He brought some beers with him, and one of them happened to be the Unibroue Don De Dieu, I didn’t try it that night, rather I took it home with me- I wanted to be relaxed while I enjoy this beverage.

Hobgoblin Dark English Ale

Origin: Wychwood Brewery (United Kingdom, England)

ABV: 5.2%

STYLE: Dark English Ale

I usually start off a review with some origin about the brewery, or how the particular beer came in to existence. This one is a little different. I happened to hear about this particular beer from a buddy of mine- Yesterday I was smoking stogies at our local cigar shop in Mt. Juliet,TN one day (shout out to Poppa P at Big Star Cigar!), when I was asked to make a beer run. My buddy Matt came with me and told me I should to try this Hobgoblin Dark English Ale). It was $5 for a little more than a pint (around 17 ounces), so it was a bit pricey for a low gravity beer… But, he has never steered me wrong, so I decided to give it a try. I am glad I did.

K.A. Kendall’s 7-20-4 Hustler

K.A. Kendall’s 7-20-4 Hustler

7-20-4 Hustler

Wrapper: Brazilian Mata Fina and Ecuadorian Connecticut

Binder: Brazilian

Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: 6×54

Price: $12.50

One of the newest lines to be released from Kurt Kendall is the K.A. Kendall’s 7-20-4 Hustler.  This cigar was released at this past years IPCPR show in Orlando.

The appearance of this cigar is nothing short of cool.  The 7-20-4 Hustler is a barber pole wrapped cigar, which has been done beautifully.  The contrast between the Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper and the Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper really sets this cigar apart in the humidor.  The Hustler also features two bands, a standard with bright blue and red colors and the 7-20-4 logo in black and gold.  The foot band features the same color scheme, but reads Hustler.

Jaxsin Cigar Company Tavern Residence

I met Bryan Jackson, owner of Jaxsin Cigar Company a little over 3 years ago shortly after I moved to Tennessee. Bryan spent a lot of time prior to the Tavern Residence blend coming to the market going over test blends, talking to consumers, retailers and fellow brand owners and distributors to really get to the bottom of selecting a product and bringing it to the shelves. Being an avid golfer, he wanted to make a cigar that would be a good medium bodied smoke that was well balanced and hit around a $5 mark.  But enough of that, lets get to the specifics of the blend.

Sam Adams Thirteenth Hour

Bottle Detail Large ThirteenthHourOrigin: Sam Adams Brewery (Boston, MA)

ABV: 9.0%

IBU: 17

STYLE: Dark Belgian Stout

Sam Adams has tried a couple of different times to get in to the high gravity beer market. Their most recent lineup, the “Barrel Room Collection” has proven to be most successful- and the “Thirteenth Hour” is my favorite to date. These high gravity beers are aged in oak barrels at their Boston brewery prior to being bottled in Interestingly shaped triangular bottles- And as I walked through the liquor store one night, these caught my attention. Now I had tried their previous high gravity lineups and I could not stand them. This, though, looked different. I shelled out my 10 bucks for this 1pt 9.4oz bottle and took it home. I was impressed.
