Jaxsin Cigar Company Tavern Residence

I met Bryan Jackson, owner of Jaxsin Cigar Company a little over 3 years ago shortly after I moved to Tennessee. Bryan spent a lot of time prior to the Tavern Residence blend coming to the market going over test blends, talking to consumers, retailers and fellow brand owners and distributors to really get to the bottom of selecting a product and bringing it to the shelves. Being an avid golfer, he wanted to make a cigar that would be a good medium bodied smoke that was well balanced and hit around a $5 mark.  But enough of that, lets get to the specifics of the blend.

Wrapper: Sun Grown Ecuadorian Habano

Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaragua

Available in the following sizes:

Double Robusto 5×54

Gordo 6×60

I’ve had the chance to smoke these cigars through the process and I’ve got to say that of the two sizes, the Double Robusto is my favorite one. The Sun grown wrapper and triple capped cigar make this $5 stick something of an oddity in that price range.

What you get with the Tavern Residence is a very well balanced medium bodied cigar. It has just enough subtle spice to keep the cigar interesting for someone who might swing for a “pepper bomb”. Over the samples I smoked, I paired them with ginger ale, bourbon as well as a Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout. Not surprisingly the best pairing went with the chocolate stout. The earthy tones of the cigar were perfectly fitted for a stout without losing any of it’s characteristics. This did not come as a surprise to me because of the Jaxsin Cigar Co’s interest in Irish heritage and home brewing.

Even though this cigar is a medium bodied cigar the Sungrown wrapper balances out the Nicaraguan internals. I typically stick to medium-Full range, but this cigar had enough spice that I would purchase a few to keep around the house for a great morning smoke. The price point alone is worth checking this cigar out. This was no doubt the best blend I tried that was given to Bryan and I’m glad the final product stacks up to what he wanted.

Check the company website at www.jaxsincigar,com and follow Bryan on Twitter @JAXSINCigar to see how the brand develops and moves into the new blends already in the works. Also if you’re lucky enough to meet Bryan at an event, get him to give you his son’s sports picks for the week.
