This week I was pleasantly surprised when I went to my mailbox and found a box full of Halloween “treats” from Mr. Gary Griffith of Emilio Cigar.  Emilio Cigar is the distributor for the Ezra Zion cigar brand as well as many other great boutique blends.  Inside the box was the all new limited edition release from Ezra Zion, the Tantrum.  The Tantrum, as I just mentioned, is a limited release of only 1500 boxes, each containing 28 cigars.

Looks:  The Ezra Zion Tantrum is a petit corona with a medium brown colored wrapper.  The wrapper leaf of this cigar is non oily and has almost a matte finish to it.  The cigar features a very nice triple cap, as well as two bands.  The first band is the standard silver and black Ezra Zion band, the second, a foot band that continues the silver and black color scheme and reads Tantrum with Edicion Limitada underneath.

Flavor: Flavor wise this cigar was off the charts.  This cigar opened upon first light with very strong spice notes, some pepper, and strong wood flavors.  The wood notes continued through out this cigar and gained some more prominent cedar flavors as the spice mellowed.  It was so good I actually smoked it until I burnt the band… and my fingers.  The tobaccos found in the Tantrum are all aged from 2005 and 2006 crop.

Burn:  Overall the burn was pretty good only requiring one touch up throughout the smoke.  The ash held firm throughout only falling when ashed.

Final Thoughts:  This cigar is excellent.  The flavor profile of the new Ezra Zion Tantrum is amazing, and is definitely worth a try.  The total smoking time for the cigar is roughly 20-30 minutes so it makes it a convenient cigar when time is limited.  The only downfall I can see is that it is a limited production cigar, 1500 boxes goes pretty quick in the cigar world.  That being said, go out and find it and buy a box, you will thank me later.
