The new Joya Red is the newest line to come out of the Joya de Nicaragua family.   The Joya Red was introduced this past July at the 2014 IPCPR show in Las Vegas to retailers.

The Joya Red will be available in four sizes:

-Short Churchill 4 ¾ x 48

-Robusto 5 ¼ x 52

-Toro 6×52

-Canonazo 5 ½ x 54

Looks: Looks wise this is a very traditional looking cigar with a band that really pops. The bright red band is trimmed in gold along with the logo and has crisp white embossed lettering that reads, “Joya” in large print with “Red” in italics underneath. At the very top of the band in small gold print reads, “Fábrica Joya De Nicaragua.” The bottom of the band has similar sized print and reads, “Hecho A Mano en Esteli.” After removing the band, the inside of the band reads, “ Rediscover Joya” with the companies website address. The cigar itself features a light to medium colored brown Nicaraguan Habano wrapper leaf with some light veining. The wrapper leaf itself has an ever so slight toothiness to it.

Taste: Immediately upon lighting the Joya Red I am greeted with a burst of spice that is followed up by a toasted nuttiness and some rich wood notes. About midway into the Joya Red a notable creaminess starts to develop and the rich wood notes become ever more present. At around the ¾ mark a slight bit of a cocoa flavor joins in with the other flavors and remains throughout the end of the smoke.

Strength: I would place the Joya Red in the medium bodied strength category.

Burn: I have smoked five of these cigars so far and what I can tell you is the Joya Red is perfectly constructed. With each stick I have only lit the cigar at the beginning of the smoke and it burns straight and even throughout until the end. The ash holds firm only falling when tapped to ash. The smoke is thick, bountiful, and white.

Should you buy it? Definitely. The flavor profile that this cigar is made up of is excellent, the tastes and aromas really make this cigar stand apart from others. The Joya Red has just been released and may not be available at your local retailer yet. Be sure to tell your retailers that they need to call their Drew Estate rep and get them ordered. After they come in, smoke one, and let us know your thoughts.
