The MBombay cigar is one that I have to admit I did not know much about prior to receiving some samples from Bombay Tobak. I had seen them once in Burns Tobacconist in downtown Chattanooga during the Chattanooga Tweet Up this last summer. After receiving these samples I did a bit of research and found that they are a boutique company that currently offers two blends, the Ecudorian Connecticut that I am reviewing here, as well as, a Brazilian Mata Fina.

Looks: Right off the bat, the first thing my eyes gravitate to is the very large band that this cigar sports. The band itself features an array of colors ranging from gold to red to green to purple. The artwork of the band features floral patterns as well as a peacock in the middle with a lion and an elephant on the sides. The artwork seems to draw inspiration from Indian culture, at least that is what it reminds me of. The only writing on the band is “MBOMBAY” located in gold set to a red background on the bottom of the band.

Stripping away the band, the cigar features a light brown Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper from 2001. The wrapper leaf is clean and smooth with minimal veining. The MBombay is rolled very nicely and even has a closed foot at the bottom.

Flavor: Upon lighting the MBombay I am initially greeted with some pleasant spice notes along with a slight leathery taste. As I proceed with smoking this cigar a certain sweetness begins to develop that will remain present throughout the remainder of the smoke. About mid way into the cigar I start to detect some slight coffee and floral notes. The coffee flavors grow as the smoke continues on and pick up an almost cinnamon flavor. Overall the flavor profile is very enjoyable and pleasant.

Burn: The burn on the MBombay Connecticut was pretty good only requiring one small touch up whilst smoking. The burn remained even and the smoke was full and white.  The ash of the MBombay was quite impressive, I got about half way before it finally fell.

Buy it? Yes. For a smaller company that was relatively unknown to me, they are putting out one hell of a smoke. The flavor profile works well with all of the different flavors pairing extremely well together. So, that being said, hop on their website, (located below) and find a retailer near you. Want your retailer to carry MBombay cigars? Have them contact them directly as they handle distribution themselves.
