The Padilla Cava 550 is one of the newest cigars to be offered out of the Padilla wheelhouse. The Padilla Cava was released earlier this year in July at the IPCPR trade show and is available in four sizes, the 550 (5×50), the 660 (6×60), 770 (7×60), and 860 (8×60) . The size I smoked for this review was the 550.

Looks: First off this cigar sports two bands, the standard band that features the Padilla signature lion logo engulfed in colors of red and gold followed by a large foot band that again features the logo and reads “Padilla Cava.” The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper on this cigar was deep brown in color and was a very oily wrapper leaf. The wrapper leaf of the Padilla Cava was also toothy with some medium veins present.

Flavor: The flavor profile of the new Padilla Cava was overall very pleasant. Upon first light I was greeted with flavors of charred oak and nuts, there was also a definite saltiness present. About mid way through the Padilla Cava the nuttiness became a much more stronger and dominant flavor in this cigar. The mid way point also began to develop some medium spice notes.  Toward the end of this cigar the primary flavor notes are that of spice, wood, and nuts.

Burn: Burn on the Padilla Cava was fairly good only requiring one touch up whilst smoking. Ash held firm only falling when ashed and the smoke was full and white.

Buy it? Padilla has been a brand that has always interested me. I want to say the first time I smoked one it was in a sampler from an online retailer and I loved it. Since then I have always been interested in trying their new lines, however not many of the shops in my area carry the Padilla lines. That being said, now that my friends at Big Star Cigar have started carrying them, I think I will be trying many more.
