Ezra Zion Cigar Company Tantrum P.A.

Ezra Zion Tantrum P.A.

Ezra Zion Cigar Company Tantrum P.A.

Wrapper: Cuban Seed Corojo 1999

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: 6 ½ x 44

Price: $9.95

Acquired: Sample courtesy of Ezra Zion Cigar Company.

Ezra Zion Cigar Company is a brand that has really impressed me over the last couple years. They seem to be one of those companies that continue to make great cigars, from their first release to their newest, their sticks are top notch in my book. The new Ezra Zion Tantrum P.A. is one of their latest offerings that just simply hits it out of the park.   The P.A. stands for “Passive Aggressive” which they claim refers to the strength dynamic of the cigar.

The Tantrum P.A. is a limited release by Ezra Zion Cigar Company, annual production of this stick is limited to 700 boxes each containing 28 cigars.

Looks: First off this is a long sleek looking cigar in an excellent 6 ½ x 44 size. The Tantrum P.A. sports a medium brown Cuban Seed Corojo wrapper leaf that has been aging since 1999. This cigar is box pressed, the wrapper leaf has minimal veining, and is finished off with a triple cap. The Tantrum P.A. has two bands, the standard silver and black Ezra Zion Cigar Company band and an additional foot band in the same color scheme that reads “TANTRUM” and “Edicíon Limitada”.

Taste: Upon first lighting the Tantrum P.A. I am immediately hit with a dark richness. The prominent flavors I am detecting on the front end are that of rich earthiness, some medium pepper notes, spice, and cocoa. While smoking a unique creaminess starts to become ever more present along with some strong wood notes. About mid way there are some notes of hay and the earthiness has become ever more prevalent. Toward the end of the cigar many of the flavors that have mellowed together begin to become more prominent again and truly make this cigar a very enjoyable smoke.

Strength: I found that this cigar starts as a fairly medium strength cigar mainly due to the spice and pepper notes. As you smoke this cigar it mellows into a mild to medium and than gains a bit more strength as you wind into the final third.

Burn: Spot on requiring no touch ups. Ash was firm and gray and held only falling when tapped.

Buy it? It’s a great cigar with a very unique strength and flavor profile. I would definitely recommend giving this cigar a try especially if you enjoyed the original Tantrum release. Smoke it and let us know what you think!

I am very pleased to announce today that The Smokey Cigar and Stogie’s & Ales have come to an agreement for The Smokey Cigar to acquire Stogie’s & Ales effective January 1, 2015, transitioning over the course of the month of December. This acquisition will result in many positive changes all focused on improving the customer’s cigar and beer consumption needs. Ms. Amy Morgan has built a great store in a great location and I am thankful that she has chosen me to purchase hercompany. All Stogie’s employees will remain and continue to serve your needs.

You may be wondering what changes are coming over the next 18 months and I will be happy to give you a glimpse of them here.

1) Increased inventory and product selection

2) Reduction of bottled beer in order to focus on draft and specialty bottled beer

3) Relocation and removal of the existing humidor

4) Refresh of aging furniture

5) Construction of a private VIP lounge (and potentially after hours access)

6) TV and sound system upgrades

7) Improved rewards program

8) Improved pricing / discount program for qualifying participants

As I grow and learn with the customers of Stogie’s & Ales I will be open to thoughts and suggestions on anything seen as needed or lacking. I will send out more information on who I am and will try and meet as many of use as possible over the next 30 days as we transition the two businesses.

In the meantime I encourage you to come to The Smokey Cigar (http://thesmokeycigar.com) in Hendersonville and check out what we are doing now! Feel free to email me with any thoughts and suggestions on what you would like to see in the future.

I would like to extend a special invitation to a free event that we host every year in Hendersonville for our customers. We just completed our 5th year of business and I throw a party for our customers every December, a tradition we will duplicate in Brentwood. The event is on December 13th from 7:00pm to usually about 1:00am. There will be free food, beer, a cigar, and Casino tables. Rocky Patel Cigars is hosting with us and will have their beautiful model with them introducing the Prohibition line of cigars.
