Gentleman Jim’s Texas Tea Beard Oil

Gentleman Jim’s Texas Tea Beard Oil

Gentleman Jims beard oil

You have decided to take the plunge into manliness and have grown a beard. Now what? Now what will you do to continue to keep your long flowing mane looking good and healthy? There are a number of products on the market today that are aimed at beard care. Some good and some not so good. Being the bearded man that I am, I decided it’s time I start reviewing some of these products, starting with, Gentleman Jim’s Texas Tea Beard Oil.

Based out of Texas, Gentleman Jim’s Texas Tea Beard Oil is a product designed by my good friend Gentleman Jim. I first met Jim a number of months ago via a Voxer chat in which the topic of beard oil came up. Jim was quick to call me out for not having tried his beard oil yet. So I did what any red blooded American bearded man would do, I ordered a bottle.

The bottle is a blue glass bottle which Jim claims helps keep out light and keeps the oil fresh. One of the things I really liked about the bottle was that it is a dropper bottle. If you have ever tried to pour a precise amount of beard oil without a dropper, you will find it is easy to get either way to little or way too much. It is also not a cheap thin glass bottle that will break the minute you put it down too hard. This bottle is made with thick glass and fairly durable.

The label that adorns this bottle is in the process of being updated according to Gentleman Jim. The label that is on my bottle is a white label with a picture of Jim himself on the front. It reads, “Gentleman Jim’s 100% All Natural Beard Oil” “Texas Tea.” On one side it lists the ingredients and on the other a description, “As Gentleman Jim enjoyed his favorite pipe tobacco one warm Texas evening he came up with Texas Tea- an invigorating blend of scents that make a man proud of his strong and noble beard. As he is known to say, “keep em lit!””

Thoughts on this oil: I have been using Gentleman Jim’s Texas Tea almost exclusively for the last month and a half now and I have noticed that my beard feels significantly softer and less frizzy. I have even been told by my better half that my beard feels much softer than it previously did. Personally, I think it looks better and more healthy too.  The oils used to make the product are all natural which is something I look for in products that I am going to be using on myself. This oil is fast absorbing which for me is a big benefit.  I spend more time than most on my cell phone for work, and have always hated the reside left by beard oils, after an hour or so there is no residue transfer.  Grab a bottle and show your beard what it has been missing.

Gentleman Jim’s Texas Tea is available to purchase on Etsy.

Nomad Cigar Company Therapy Lines

Nomad Cigar Co. Therapy Lines

Nomad therapy

The newest line from Nomad Cigar Co. and brand owner Fred Rewey is, Nomad Therapy. The Nomad Therapy line consists of three blends; a Connecticut, Habano, and Maduro. The Therapy line will be available in two sizes, a 4 ½ x 50 short Robusto and a 6 x 50 Toro. We decided to go a bit crazy and give you three reviews for the price of one!

Nomad Therapy Connecticut

Nomad Therapy Connecticut

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut

Binder: San Andres

Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: 4 ½ x 50 Short Robusto

Price: $7.49

Acquired: Purchased at Burn’s Tobacconists, Chattanooga, TN.

My morning started rather early waking up at 3 am. After walking around a bit, knocking out some small projects, and drinking a couple cups of coffee there wasn’t much else left for me to do but fire up a stick. Welcome in the Nomad Therapy Connecticut.

*I will preface this by saying I am a huge Connecticut fan. Connecticut done right with flavor is not an easy task to pull off.

Looks: First off this cigar has a white band with the Nomad logo in blue located front and center reading, “NOMAD” below it.   On the back in blue reads, “NOMAD CIGAR COMPANY” and Fred’s twitter handle, “@GODFADR.” The band is simple, not overstated, and a good mix of classic and modern design. Overall, it is appealing to the eye. The wrapper leaf itself is an Ecuadorian Connecticut leaf that is light in color and has a clean appearance with minimal veins running through it. This wrapper leaf has the slightest bit of an oily sheen to it.

Smoking Conditions: About 70 degrees with a slight breeze at 6 am.

Pre-Light: On the pre-light I picked up an aroma of hay. The pre-light draw was that of hay and grassy notes.

Taste: Upon first light I was instantly hit with a hazelnut nuttiness and some slight salt notes on the sides of my tongue. The Therapy Connecticut opened up after the first few puffs revealing some bright cedar and cream notes. The slightest bit of pepper was also noted, most likely being derived from the San Andres binder. The Therapy Connecticut overall proved to be a solid and consistent stick in terms of flavor.

Strength: Mild

Burn: Spot on even.

Buy it? If you are a sucker for a good Connecticut cigar like I am this is definitely a cigar for you! Fred’s Connecticut Fuerte line is currently one of my favorite go to Connecticut sticks, the Therapy Connecticut is a milder and somewhat tamer Connecticut but that slight bit of pepper on the back end gives it a nice little jolt of flavor. I can definitely see this cigar being added in to my regular rotation of breakfast smokes.

Nomad Therapy Habano

Nomad Therapy Habano

Wrapper: Habano Rosado Ecuador

Binder: Habano Jalapa

Filler: Nicaraguan and Dominican

Size: 4 ½ x 50 Short Robusto

Price: $7.49

Acquired: Purchased at Burns Tobacconists, Chattanooga, TN.

Welcome to round two of the Nomad Therapy review, next up the Nomad Therapy Habano.

Looks: The Nomad Therapy Habano sports a white band like the Connecticut, but the outline of the Nomad Logo and writing is maroon in color. Logo front and center and again, “NOMAD’ underneath. On the back in maroon reads, “NOMAD CIGAR COMPANY” and Fred’s twitter handle, “@GODFADR.” The leaf, Habano Rosado Ecuador, is medium brown in color and has some small veins running through it. This wrapper leaf has an oily sheen to it and a light toothiness to it.

Smoking Conditions: Approximately 70 degrees with a slight breeze at 7:30pm.

Pre-Light: The pre-light aroma of this cigar was that of hay and a slight bit of ammonia. Pre-light draw was hay notes.

Taste: Upon first lighting the new Nomad Therapy Habano I noticed a definite sweetness to the tobacco. The primary flavors were that of hay and grass with a light background nuttiness. These flavors stayed relatively consistent throughout the smoke with the nuttiness gaining a strong foothold in the final third This cigar ended in a very pleasurable culmination of these flavor notes.

Strength: Medium.

Burn: Spot on and perfect.

Buy it? This is one of the best all day smokes I have found lately. Balanced and flavorful without being too strong or overbearing is the best way to describe the Nomad Therapy Habano. The perfect medium bodied full flavor smoke for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or anytime of day. Personally, I could smoke this cigar everyday, actually, that may happen!

Nomad Therapy Maduro

Nomad Therapy Maduro

Wrapper: Pennsylvania Broadleaf

Binder: Habano Jalapa

Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: 4 ½ x 50

Price: $7.49

Acquired: Purchased at Burns Tobacconists, Chattanooga, TN.

Enter in the big daddy, the Nomad Therapy Maduro.

Looks: Much like it’s siblings, the Therapy Maduro has a white band, however the Maduro version has a black Nomad logo and writing. The writing is the same, “NOMAD” on the front under the logo and “NOMAD CIGAR COMPANY” on the back with, “@GODFADR” underneath it.

Smoking Conditions: 65 degrees at 8:30pm.

Pre-light: Pre-light aroma of licorice and taste of wood and pepper.

Taste: Get ready for the pepper hit! Upon first light I was instantly hit with black and red pepper notes on the lips. The initial pepper hit quickly mellows into that of a nice black pepper flavoring. The black pepper flavors are accompanied by a nuttiness and notes of charred oak wood. The pepper, nuttiness, and charred wood notes are the primary flavors in this smoke and maintain consistency throughout.

Strength: Full

Burn: Once again, the burn on the Nomad Therapy Maduro was perfect.

Buy it? If you had asked me this question upon first puff I would have said it was a bit too strong for me. However, after getting a few puffs in and letting the flavors mellow this became an excellent stick that was full of flavor. If you are looking for a full-bodied cigar that sports a ton of flavor than this Maduro is the stick for you.

For me, these are three sticks that I was really looking forward to. So much so that they were some of the cigars I was looking for on my trip to the Chattanooga Tweet Up this year. You know if you are willing to travel a few hours for cigars there is a level of dedication to the hobby. The downfall to that is sometimes you expect too much from the cigar and are disappointed after tasting it. I am happy to report that in no way was the case with any of the Nomad Therapy line.   The Connecticut Fuerte release from Nomad last year really put this brand on the map for me personally, Fred has outdone himself this year putting out three great new sticks to add to his repertoire.

Famous Smoke Shop Introduces Two Exclusive Cigars from Joya de Nicaragua, Cunning and Merciless

Famous Smoke Shop Introduces Two Exclusive Cigars from Joya de Nicaragua, Cunning and Merciless

 Famous Smoke Shop and Joya

EASTON, PA–(Marketwired – August 05, 2015) – Famous Smoke Shop is a leading online distributor of discounted premium cigars. The company specializes in offering the web’s widest selection of cigars at the lowest prices. Famous has just released two new cigar lines under the Joya de Nicaragua brand by Drew Estate Cigars. These new releases are the highly anticipated Cunning and Merciless Cigars, and they are exclusively available at Famous Smoke Shop. The first shipment is expected to arrive to the company’s warehouse mid-August preordering is currently available on their website. The company has expressed that both these new brand will be available in limited quantities, but is not a one-time release and will be a consistent offering for the foreseeable future.

Both of these cigars will be the first releases within their respective lines. Cunning will have a new blend designed to provide sophisticated and complex flavors to satisfy every cigar smoker’s taste buds. This blend will be made in small batches and production on the brand will be limited. Merciless is expected to come out on the same day as the milder Cunning cigar in order to offer more veteran smokers the opportunity to enjoy a blend with a little more strength.

Cunning cigars utilize a blend consisting of a complex mixture of Nicaraguan filler tobaccos and binder, and a silky smooth yet incredibly flavorful Ecuadorian Shade Grown Connecticut wrapper leaf. The Merciless cigar utilizes a blend consisting of complex Nicaraguan fillers, a smooth Dominican binder, and a lush and flavorful Ecuadorian Habano wrapper tobaccos which has been a proven wrapper offering cigar smokers have sought for years. The result of both is simply unfounded anywhere in the cigar industry, and has already gained immense popularity among those who were given the rare opportunity to try the pre-release of both cigars.

“This cigar offers what I consider to be the best of both worlds,” Famous Smoke Shop editor and cigar reviewer John Pullo remarks on the Cunning. “The immense flavor that pours off this cigar is unbelievable, and the wrapper is perhaps one of the biggest players in this blend. When mixed in with an all Nicaraguan core, and you have the perfect recipe for a relaxing yet not overpowering smoke. So in essence, what you have is a cigar that borrows the smoothness of a Connecticut wrapper grown in the fertile soils of Ecuador for beefed up flavor, along with a complexity courtesy of Nicaragua which grows tobaccos similar to that found in Cuba for an overall and undeniable flavor bomb. It certainly gets two thumbs up.”

Cunning and Merciless cigars are available in three sizes — a 7 x 50 Churchill, a 6 x 60 Magnum, a 6 x 50 Toro, and a 5 x 50 Robusto. With Famous’ full box discount pricing, customers can enjoy these new offerings with individual retail prices ranging from $3.46 to $4.62 per cigar for the Cunning, and $3.22 to $5.02 for the Merciless. Cigar Review: CAO Gold Maduro

CAO Gold Maduro

CAO Gold Maduro

Wrapper: Brazilian Maduro

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: Robusto 5 x 50

Price: $5

Acquired: Samples courtesy of Famous Smoke Shop

Our review today is brought to you by the good folks over at Famous Smoke Shop. Famous Smoke Shop sent us over a handful of the classic CAO Gold Maduro cigars to try and review and I am glad they did. Originally released in 2007, the CAO Gold Maduro is a cigar that has stood the test of time and brings amazing flavors and quality construction to the table.

The CAO Gold Maduro comes in a 20 count box with each stick being individually cello’d.

Pre-light: Earthy and wood notes.

Looks: Looking at the CAO Gold Maduro you instantly notice the classic CAO Gold band; gold in color trimmed in red and white. The Name “CAO” stands prominently in the center with “Imported” and “Handmade” on each side. A secondary smaller band sits below the main band, the colors are the same but read, “Gold” and “Maduro.”   The cigar itself features a dark Brazilian Maduro wrapper leaf. This wrapper leaf has a slight oily sheen to it with the ever-slightest bit of toothiness. Veins in the wrapper leaf are small and almost unnoticeable.

Taste: The best part of all reviews is by far the taste category. I am glad Famous Smoke Shop chose the CAO Gold Maduro to send to us because it is a cigar that I had basically forgotten about. In the ever-changing world of new cigars, sometimes you miss or forget about these great tasting classics. The flavor is there in force in this stick. Upon first light the main flavor I noticed was that of cocoa followed by an earthiness and cedar. The overall sweetness and creaminess of this cigar is very pleasant. While smoking the sweet cocoa notes mellow some about half way into the cigar leaving the earth and cedar notes to take the lead. A nice coffee note is also detected around the final third and helps take the rest of the flavors to the end of the stick.

Strength: Medium

Burn: Overall pretty good. It did require a few touch ups to keep the burn even, however it is July and humidity is high outside. Smoke from this cigar was thick and plentiful.

Buy it? It’s a classic with tons of flavor, why wouldn’t you buy it? Good flavor, quality construction, and one hell of a great price point.
