Padrón Damaso

Padrón Damaso

Padron Damaso

Wrapper: Connecticut Shade not disclosed.

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Nicaraguan

Size: 5 ½ x 46 Corona

Price: $13.49

Acquired: Purchased at Big Star Cigar-Mt. Juliet, TN

New to the Padrón lineup this year is the companies first Connecticut shade cigar, the Padrón Damaso. Being the Connecticut connoisseur that I am, I was anxious to try this cigar when I heard about its release at the 2015 IPCPR show.

Smoking Conditions: Early afternoon, approximately 72 degrees.

Looks: The new Padrón Damaso features a white band trimmed in burgundy with gold lettering that reads, “Padrón” and “CRAFTED BY HAND” on the sides. The band is individually numbered on the bottom much like that of the Anniversary series. The Damaso has a second band just below the main one that shares the same colors but read, “DAMASO” set upon a burgundy and then white background. The sides of this band display golden hammers. The cigar itself has a light brown Connecticut shade wrapper. The origins of this Connecticut wrapper leaf are undisclosed by Padrón. The wrapper leaf has a smooth almost suede like finish with minimal veining and a slight toothiness.

Pre-Light: Pre-light aroma was that of cedar. The pre-light draw also displayed cedar, as well as, grassy notes.

Taste: Upon first lighting the Padrón Damaso, I am greeted by flavor notes of wood, nuts, mild white pepper, and a definite creaminess. These flavors remain fairly consistent throughout the first half of the smoke where the nuttiness that is present becomes the predominant note. About three fourths of the way in the nuttiness has become a bit more subdued as the wood cedar notes become ever more dominant and are joined by a slight bit of raisin flavoring. The Padrón Damaso finished strong in the flavor category with woody, nutty, and an almost campfire flavor to it. The creaminess that was mentioned at the start has been present throughout the entire smoke.

Burn: Perfect burn with no touch ups needed. Smoke was plentiful and the ash held firm until tapped.

Buy it? If you are looking for a quality stick that has gone through vigorous quality control, then the Padrón Damaso is the cigar for you. Made to impeccable standards this cigar ranks high in the quality and taste categories.

Ezra Zion Jamais Vu

Ezra Zion Jamais Vu

Ezra Zion Jamais Vu

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Corojo 07’

Binder: Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo 07’

Filler: Nicaraguan 07’

Size: 6 ½ x 54 Corona Gorda

Price: $12.49

Acquired: Purchased at The Smokey Cigar 2, Brentwood, TN.

I purchased the Ezra Zion Jamais Vu some time ago and have been meaning to smoke it and review it for a couple months. It has sat in the humidor on my desk staring back at me every time that I open it. Well, today is the day that it got smoked.

Smoking Conditions: Outdoors, approximately 62 degrees with a moderate to high wind.

Looks: The Ezra Zion Jamais Vu sports the classic black and silver Ezra Zion band as well as a foot band that shares the same color scheme but reads, “Jamais Vu” and “Primera Edicíon.” The cigar itself has a medium colored brown Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper leaf with medium veins. The wrapper leaf is slightly oily and has a bit of toothiness to it.

Pre-Light: The pre-light draw is that of hay.

Taste: Upon first lighting this cigar I was greeted with flavor notes of caramel and a strong nuttiness. About a quarter of the way in these flavors have been joined by a warm earthy flavor and a mild but definite cedar note. At the midway point, these notes have all joined in a culmination of flavor that is absolutely delicious. The aforementioned flavors remain present throughout the remainder of this stick and gain a slight bit of pepper in the final half.

Strength: Medium to full. The Jamais Vu has some ligero in the filler that gives it some nice strength.

Burn: The burn has been a bit temperamental, I will justify that though with the fact that I am smoking outside and it is quite windy out today. Smoke was plentiful.

Buy it? Sure. Overall this is a very balanced, consistent, and flavorful stick. It is the perfect compliment after a good meal and pairs excellently with a cup of coffee or fine spirit.

Drew Estate Announces ACID Supercell, Subculture Exclusive for Fogue & Bates in Tulsa, OK

Drew Estate Announces ACID Supercell, Subculture Exclusive for Fogue & Bates in Tulsa, OK

DE Supercell

Miami, FL – Drew Estate will be releasing a new Subculture cigar for Fogue & Bates in Tulsa, OK, called ACID Supercell. The new cigar will be released at an in-store event at Fogue & Bates on November 19th, 2015. Supercell will be available exclusively at the Fogue & Bates retail shop.

The new ACID Supercell is presented in a 4 ¾ x 43 vitola, and the blend is based on the ACID Toast blend. ACID Toast has become a popular choice among ACID smokers who are looking for a fuller-bodied ACID cigar. The blend features a maduro wrapper from the San Andres Valley and has rich tobacco notes underlying the sweet taste of the ACID infusion.

When asked about the new ACID Supercell, Jonathan Drew said that, “James George at Fogue & Bates understands the ethos of Drew Estate. He has become a virtual extension of our vision, and drives it straight to consumers in the Midwest market.  The new ACID Supercell has been meticulously created to honor James for everything he has added to our journey. The Supercell is stupid fresh.  If you find yourself in Tulsa, definitely stop by Fogue & Bates. It’s an awesome shop run by an awesome team that we call family. ”

James George, owner of Fogue & Bates, commented that, “The Supercell project started four years ago, with the idea that the Toast is my favorite ACID blend. The one problem was that the larger size was sometimes too large for the occasion. Sometimes you just don’t have an hour to commit to a cigar. From there, Supercell was born. After four years and several blend iterations, the Supercell blend is what we’ve landed on, and I’m extremely excited about it. My relationship with Drew Estate over the years has been a fantastic partnership, and I truly believe that Drew Estate is the most innovative company in the industry. I’m happy to be partnered up with them for Supercell.”
