New to the Padrón lineup this year is the companies first Connecticut shade cigar, the Padrón Damaso. Being the Connecticut connoisseur that I am, I was anxious to try this cigar when I heard about its release at the 2015 IPCPR show.

Smoking Conditions: Early afternoon, approximately 72 degrees.

Looks: The new Padrón Damaso features a white band trimmed in burgundy with gold lettering that reads, “Padrón” and “CRAFTED BY HAND” on the sides. The band is individually numbered on the bottom much like that of the Anniversary series. The Damaso has a second band just below the main one that shares the same colors but read, “DAMASO” set upon a burgundy and then white background. The sides of this band display golden hammers. The cigar itself has a light brown Connecticut shade wrapper. The origins of this Connecticut wrapper leaf are undisclosed by Padrón. The wrapper leaf has a smooth almost suede like finish with minimal veining and a slight toothiness.

Pre-Light: Pre-light aroma was that of cedar. The pre-light draw also displayed cedar, as well as, grassy notes.

Taste: Upon first lighting the Padrón Damaso, I am greeted by flavor notes of wood, nuts, mild white pepper, and a definite creaminess. These flavors remain fairly consistent throughout the first half of the smoke where the nuttiness that is present becomes the predominant note. About three fourths of the way in the nuttiness has become a bit more subdued as the wood cedar notes become ever more dominant and are joined by a slight bit of raisin flavoring. The Padrón Damaso finished strong in the flavor category with woody, nutty, and an almost campfire flavor to it. The creaminess that was mentioned at the start has been present throughout the entire smoke.

Burn: Perfect burn with no touch ups needed. Smoke was plentiful and the ash held firm until tapped.

Buy it? If you are looking for a quality stick that has gone through vigorous quality control, then the Padrón Damaso is the cigar for you. Made to impeccable standards this cigar ranks high in the quality and taste categories.
